Although the completion of any project hinges on the careful procurement and allocation of resources, many artists create a budget only when required to by an outside source—and even arts institutions rely on years- (or decades-) old budgets to tackle a changing landscape and changing priorities. Sara Daleiden—a passionate advocate and wizard of budgeting—will share why creative budgeting is so crucial for artists at all stages of their careers. Starting with budgets as poems and outlines, she will guide participants through the crafting processes of compelling and workable budgets for themselves and others. Topics will include developing strategic partnerships, rethinking existing institutional budget lines, experimenting with income generation, and prioritize wealth for artists. Participants will leave with an understanding of how budgets can be roadmaps toward goals.
